David Johansen, the chameleonic and charismatic vocalist who fronted New York Dolls and found solo success under the moniker Buster Poindexter, died Friday, his publicist confirmed to NPR. He was 75.

The family bought the elegant upper north shore property, which dates to circa 1918, for $1.27 million in 1999.
