Ian Daley, operations and security manager for Jersey Heritage, said a lightning bolt had hit Gorey Castle. The lightning blew out the alarms, entry pass machines and affected some computers.

Standing in the shadow of Gorey Castle, the pier is home to a variety of restaurants, shops and cafes. States-owned Jersey Property Holdings wanted to replace two shops with three townhouses.
