A Southern California TikToker caught a group of careless idiots launching lantern balloons with lit candles into the sky near a nature preserve — even as wildfires incinerated Los Angeles.

First, “balloons that are released by a person on behalf of a governmental agency or pursuant to a governmental contract for scientific or meteorological purposes” are allowable.

They added the council had never taken any form of action against a balloon release.
