The route, to be known as the Elizabeth Line, was originally due to open in December 2018. Crossrail Ltd chief executive Mark Wild said services would be delayed to allow time for more testing.

The section of the line that will be operational from December 2018 has now been illustrated on an updated Tube map. We visited Farringdon to see what to expect once the line officially opens.
