The Sault Ste. Marie Canal, built in 1895, was the world’s longest lock, the first to operate using electricity and the last link in an all-Canadian navigational chain from the Atlantic to Lake Superior. Today the Canal, used by recreational craft, is a great spot for boat-watching and picnics - but you can do more than watch! Let a Parks Canada interpreter/guide introduce you to the Canal’s fascinating history.

Small but really well done interpretive center showing the history of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal. My favorite part was the mechanical mini-model of how the locks actually work. They also have nice …Erica F的完整评论

Awesome place! I'm into the history of engineering, so I was ecstatic to be able to read all the informational plaques along the self-guided tour about the locks. It was also fun to watch how the loc…Maryna G的完整评论

We walked a 5km circuit from our Quality Inn & Suites Bay Front along the St. Mary's River Boardwalk to this site. Luckily a tour boat was entering the 1895 lock as we passed the 1896 Administration …Gene R J的完整评论

Lots of easy parking. Were there in October and again early early March. But have been there in summer and still pretty much nonissue.

Yes, lots of parking by the locks. Then you walk over the bridge. Worth going for sure!

If you are referring to Crystal Falls, they are located just north of the city in Kinsmen Park. I would say just a few km north of the city. BUT...be advised that when we visited there in late Sept 2016, the boardwalk to access the falls in the park was closed and access not permitted, There was no indication for the closure but I suspect structural problems with the boardwalk. Hopefully it will be open when you visit. From pictures I have seen, Crystal Falls is quite nice. The Park is quite nice too. NOW if you are referring to the 3 falls in Agawa Canyon, they are ONLY accessible by the Algoma Central Railway tour. They are an easy walk from the train station stop in Agawa Canyon itself. It is a 4 hour train ride from SSM to Agawa Canyon. Hope this helps. Mark
