Puako is on the Big Island of Hawaii. From Honolulu it is about an hour plane ride from Kona on the Big Island north to Honolulu. The cost for the plane ride is about $100-150.

Even experienced Hawaii swimmers can get caught up in a rip tide that will take them out to sea and only the strongest swimmers can survive. Always walk up to the life guard station and ask the lifeguard the current conditions for that day. Tides change during the day and that means swimming conditions change as well. Hapuna Beach has numerous life guard stations there to protect you and your family, and it is one of the most loved beaches in the world. The big island is a new island with newly forming beaches. Do not swim alone and do not risk a family's day at the beach by swimming, snorkeling and paddle boarding without a life guard close by. There are there for a reason, to keep you safe. -This is from a parent and former lifeguard who has had to pull too many people from near drowning in Hawaii's waters
