多佛尔是英国肯特郡的一个海港，人口约3.1万。多佛尔港最靠近法国的加来港，两地去只34公里，因此成为英国最繁忙的一个海港，每年旅客多达1800万人次。英法间的海峡也因此得名多佛尔海峡。 多佛尔有几千年历史。1992年发现的青铜时代古船，经碳同位素测定为公元前1550年的遗物。1974年在多佛尔海岸还发现了属于法国青铜时代的青铜斧头，表明至少在青铜时代海峡两地已有船只来往。
