Sorry for the late reply, you can definitely go by your own vehicle. The ride itself is amazing through the forest reserves. Roads in Kerala is little bad, the ones in Tamilnadu is good. Google maps will route you perfectly. Book in advance and make sure you reach the places in time, as they close their gate and you DO NOT want to get stuck in the forest. They do check for alcohol at check posts so do not carry them. There is poor mobile connectivity only idea / BSNL works, make sure you have off line maps. Keep your eyes open as you might spot wildlife on your way to the reserve. We managed to spot an elephant.
