Dear JW: Good question! The National Park Service offers a couple of guide documents and maps online. Do a Web search for "National Park Service" plus "Great Island" plus "filetype:pdf". The complete trail is a loop that follows the coastline. According to the NPS, the 'harbor / marsh' side is 3 miles to Jeremy point, and a total of 8 miles via the "Tavern Site". As I mentioned in my review, the "harbor/marsh" side is beautiful, but there is along stretch of loose dry sand that is a chore to hike through. If you time your hike for a lowering tide, the Bay side is windswept ocean -- with a harder walking surface. This can be important for families with kids or elders. Either way, the first stretch along the marsh will give everyone a good view of the marsh area. I hope this is helpful. Enjoy! Mark
