朱诺，正式名称为朱诺市县是美国阿拉斯加州的首府。与亚历山大群岛隔加斯蒂诺海峡相望。早在欧洲移民者来到北美洲前，加斯蒂诺海峡就一直是美国西北部的原住民族特林吉特人经常活动的区域，他们在附近地区捕鱼，但并没有在此处建立任何固定的聚落。1880年，来自阿拉斯加矿业城市锡特卡的矿业工程师乔治·皮尔兹悬赏征求当地的部落酋长带领他们寻找金矿，可威酋长回应这要求带领了一些寻矿者前往黄金溪地区探索但徒劳无功。第二次，在可威酋长的带领之下，乔·朱诺、理察·哈里斯等人重新前往加斯蒂诺海峡探索，并且来到黄金溪的源头雪崩谷，在那里找到大量的砂金。
