4 days is short. You may want to spend 2 nights in Porto and then find a vineyard that is not too far up the Duro river so you can enjoy 2 days walking around between the grapes.
We are planning a one or two-day trip from Porto to the Duoro Valley in March 2023. Is it possible to take a boat one way from Porto to Pinhao or anywhere worth visiting, stay overnight and take the train back the next afternoon? I can see some tours that go by boat but can't find anyone mentioning one-way boat trips.

Hi. Sorry for the delay in answering but I have been away from this site for a long time. You can get one way. My wife and I did the trip from Porto and got the train back the same day. We used Cruzeiros Douro. They do day trips both ways and return by bus. They give a small discount if you arrange your own return. You do need to check their schedule as they go one way one day and then the other the following. They go through the deepest locks on the river which is what we were after. One thing to look for is there is an old fashioned steam train which travels back to Poto but it runs at limited time and dates. The rest of the time it’s just a normal commuter type train. The views are great as it runs next to the Douro but does break away the closer it gets to Porto. The end of the line is Porto Sao Bento railway station which deserves a visit to see its fantastic tiles. Have a great trip

You are in for a great trip. I have never been to Porto in Spring, only Algarve. Porto is wonderful. After taking the Hop on Hop off bus tour to get to know all the main "attractions" and discovering the nice things of Porto I would suggest at least one day trip to Guimares. Taking the train there is not expensive and quite easy to do. You will see the Douro Valley by boat - not sure how many times you stop and get off to visit a wineries - if it is not many you might want to take a day trip from Porto to Pinhao. That can be by train or an organized trip with a mini van - 8 to 10 persons. Although I am not a vegetarian I did eat at a great vegetarian restaurant, only I for get the name now. Most restaurants do have vegetarian choices. I Uber often but in Portugal it was not nesc. as Taxis are very affordable. Our next trip we will do day trips from Porto to Braga and Coimbra, both are easily reached by train. Have fun.
