Will you feel out of place if you do not have a tuxedo at the Canadian Opera Company?Is a suit acceptable attire? OK to wear normal tie (and not a bow tie)? Girlfriend bought tickets to Carmen and have never been....thanks in advance!

As far as I've noticed, business casual is the most worn style at COC shows. Very few with full formal attire. So dress pants, dress shoes and dress shirt is definitely enough. No need for a tie. If you want to be one of the people that dress up to stand out a bit, then a nice business suit and tie should do well enough. A tuxedo might actually make you look out of place. I would stay away from: jeans, sneakers, t-shirts. Any of these items will definitely make you seem out of place or even draw nasty stares.
